On February 4, 2025, students from the Chinese Orchestra of Dalian No. 44 Middle School embarked on an educational journey at the World Music Culture Museum. Here, they not only listened to music from around the globe but also experienced humanity's pursuit and preservation of the art of sound.
Standing before the replica of the 2,400-year-old Zeng Hou Yi chime bells, the students felt transported back to the Warring States period. The bells, intricately carved with exquisite patterns, produced a pure, resonant tone, showcasing the ancient artisans' superb casting skills and musical ingenuity.
This 19th-century John Broadwood nine-foot grand piano represents the golden age of classical music. Crafted from a single piece of yellow rosewood, its body features exquisite carvings, producing a rich, resonant tone imbued with historical significance. Many musical masters have performed on pianos of this brand, and it is celebrated as Beethoven's lifelong favourite.
Before the German royal court's music box cabinet, as the turntable was manually rotated, a series of gears and mechanical devices triggered the notes within the music box. The fusion of mechanical structure and melody played the 528Hz love frequency, resonating deeply with the students.
Students from the folk music ensemble listened to a century-old recording played on Edison's commemorative phonograph.
The phonograph embodied humanity's dream of capturing sound. Its invention not only revolutionised music distribution but also laid the foundation for later recording technologies.
Music is the echo of history and the prelude to the future. The students of Dalian No. 44 Middle School Chinese Orchestra documented every moment of this educational journey with their eyes and hearts. May they continue to carry forward the classics and create the future on their musical path!
